August 2008

We kicked off the beginning of the end of summer with a trip to Lake Delton and the Wisconsin Dells area with our friends, the Comptons. On the way up there, we took a detour to cross the Wisconsin River on the Merrimac car ferry.

Lake Delton drained earlier in the summer (see June 2008), but we still rented a great cabin right on the former lake shore. You can see some of the devastation and the strange look in these photos. The panoramic picture is of the washout area where the lake drained into the Wisconsin River. Here are a few links explaining what happened : Milwaukee Journal, Wikipedia, Youtube, WISC-TV Madison

With the lake empty, we rented a pontoon boat and a wave runner upstream on the Wisconsin River.

The cabin came with free tickets to Mt. Olympus water park.

There was plenty of time for games, geocaching and stories as well. What a blast!

We also hit a few car shows this month. Took the Corvair to Geneva on the 7th.....

Took the Cobra to Geneva on the 14th....

And finally, took the Corvair to the Elgin McDonalds on the 15th.. Won a Koolest Kar award at that one....

Joe and Doug did a little fishing at their favorite fishing hole.

And then it was back to school for Danielle.

With all of the fun we had at the Dells with the waverunner, we decided to get our own. We found this Yamaha Waverunner 1200 XLT just down the road. Our first trip out was to Lake Geneva on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The lake was quite crowded but we had alot of fun.

Danielle and Erica performed their duet pieces for intermission for a senior recital. Click on the Youtube links to hear their performances.
